Dunsmuir
Mossbrae Falls, Sacramento River
Dunsmuir is home of the proclaimed "Best Water on Earth" and is California’s Historic Railroad Town… Dunsmuir’s historic district reflects the town’s association with transportation. First came the railroad, which in fact, created the town. Early surveys determined that the upper Sacramento River Canyon was the most viable route for a railroad linking California with Oregon. By the mid-1880s the railroad had entered Siskiyou County and in August of 1886, the Central Pacific Railroad arrived. Their camp, about one mile south of today’s historic commercial district, was first called Pusher for the helper or pusher engines that were based there to assist trains over the steep grades to the north.
McCloud
Historic Downtown
McCloud houses and beautiful views of snow-covered Mt. Shasta form a backdrop for the tranquil town. As a former company-owned lumber town, McCloud was designed to be a self-contained, full-service community. The friendly residents enjoy all the amenities and recreational opportunities which include a community park, nine-hole golf course, horseback riding club, downhill and cross-country skiing, trout fishing, hiking, and snowmobiling! McCloud is unincorporated, therefore, the population of 1,550 in 1990 reflect the immediate rural area around the town. McCloud is also the location of the famous Wyntoon private estate owned by the Hearst Corporation. The estate is so private you can only see it from the McCloud River as you pass through on kayak, boat, etc.
Mount Shasta
Fall view of Mount Shasta
The City of Mount Shasta is situated at the base of the southwestern slope of Mount Shasta, a 14,162-foot volcano and second highest peak in the Cascade Range and in the United States. Mount Shasta City elevation is 3,563 feet and the population within the city limits is approximately 3,510 as of 1998. Our valley is surrounded by pine-covered forests and is located within the Shasta Trinity National Forest.
Snow-capped Mount Shasta with all its grandeur, towering high in the blue sky, standing 14,162 feet in elevation, alone and massive in size, isolating itself from the rugged peaks that surround it like a lonely pyramid in the desert. Located in Siskiyou County, it can easily be seen for more than 100 miles when you’re traveling on any highway. Recently the town has become the first declared Pacific Coast Trail City welcoming the hikers who bravely venture along the trail.
Weed
City Arch
Weed is a small city midway between Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, and between Los Angeles and Seattle, Washington, on the I-5 corridor running north/south in California. Its name hails from Abner Edward Weed, the Civil War soldier and pioneering entrepreneur. His many progeny still live in the area. Weed is a historic lumber town officially recognized as part of the Volcanic Scenic Byway, a 500 mile route beginning in California’s Lake Amador basin and ending at Crater Lake in Oregon. The route traverses extraordinary scenery and geologic phenomena and links the four notable volcanoes in this part of the continent. Weed is also the location of Crystal Geyser and other known companies throughout the area.
